Can CBD get you high ?
With all of the recent talks about CBD and it’s multitude of health benefits, consumers have a lot of questions. One of the most prominent being can CBD get you high ?
Many new consumers of CBD or prospective consumers are wondering whether CBD can get you high? The short answer is; depends.
I know that’s not what you were expecting to hear, but keep reading and you’ll discover the answer is actually quite simple and straight forward. CBD, scientifically known as cannabidiol, on its’ own will not get you high.
Then, what part of Cannabis gets you high?
Ok, now that we’ve cleared that out of the way. We know that CBD has no psychoactive affects, however THC, scientifically known as tetrahydrocannabinol, is the part of Cannabis which has all of the psychoactive affects.
All cannabis plants are derived from a number of 483 compounds. No one strain has all 483 compounds within itself, which is how we have so many different strains.
In reality the difference in the strains are the compounds found within each plant. The common way to describe the different strains is to categorize them into a mixture between sativa and indica with all strains being a bit of both. This is a simple way to think about it, but it’s not very accurate. We’ll be sure to write more on this in the future.
Back to whether CBD can get you high. There are 113 identified cannabinoids found in cannabis of which CBD and THC are part of. Every strain has a ratio of CBD and THC, the question then comes down to what percentage of THC can be found in the CBD you’re purchasing. The lower the THC the less psychoactive affects.
How much THC will get me high?
Let’s break this down even simpler so you can be crystal clear about what you’re purchasing. To feel any psychological affects the cannabis you ingest or inhale should have at least 5%. For people who are regular smokers 5% will have no psychological affects, so 5% is enough for someone who is new and very sensitive to THC.
Hemp derived CBD will contain less than 1% depending on how well the extraction method has been done. From the higher quality CBD companies you can expect less than 0.5% of THC found in their tinctures.
